Steve and Carm Gilmore

American Legion Leroy Hill Post #19 Family
Gardner, KS
Volunteers of the Quarter
Summer 2017

Steve Gilmore became a member of Sons of the American Legion Squadron 19 in September of 2014, and Carm Gilmore joined American Legion Auxiliary Unit 19 in January of 2015. They subsequently became members of American Legion Riders Chapter 19 in November 2014 and February of 2015.

Steve became a member through his dad Charles E. Gilmore who was a Veteran of the Army National Guard during the Korean War. Carm derives her eligibility through her grandfather, Frank Stapp, who was a WWI Army Veteran. Carm’s father, Earl W Haworth, was a WWII Navy Veteran and served in the Pacific theater. Steve and Carm’s son-in-law is a US Air Force and Army National Guard veteran 2004-2015. Their oldest son, Steven D. Gilmore, is currently in the Navy since 2007, attached to the CVN 69 USS Dwight D Eisenhower. The Gilmore’s youngest son, Marcus E Gilmore, is a US Marine since 2015 who is currently deployed in South Korea. They are both very proud of their rich family military history, and they greatly enjoy being able to serve all veterans as well!

Carm and Steve are both very active at Post 19. Carm has been Sgt of Arms for Auxiliary Unit 19 and is currently the chaplain. She is also part of the Historian group with the ALR.
On top of all the volunteer hours he logs with the ALR, Steve is also a member of Post 19 Color Guard. Both volunteer countless hours with not only their parent groups functions, but with all Post 19 events and functions without regard for loyalty to any one group. And always with willingness and smiles on their faces!

“I personally enjoy the people at our Post. It is like a family. It is an honor for me to be able to stand a flag line and participate in rides for our veterans. There are so many fun things it is hard to pick what is my favorite. Steve’s favorite is how well everyone gets along it is like a family. He enjoys helping out with the big events we have no matter if it is for ALR, SONS or any other part of the Legion Family. Being a part of this Legion has given both of us a chance to make some amazing friends and have some life changing experiences,” says Carm of her and Steve’s favorite things about being members of the Post 19 Family.

We salute you, Steve and Carm Gilmore! Thank you for your service to the Post 19 Family, and all the Veterans that Post 19 serves!
